September 2025 Leaderships Update: Collaboration Is the New Leadership

Essay for the Founder, Tarja Stephens | Leaders of the Future

Collaboration Is the New Leadership

The world is moving faster than any of us imagined, and this is our moment to prepare for what comes next. The next ten years will bring opportunities and responsibilities unlike anything we have seen before. Traditional models can’t keep up with exponential change. What is needed now is a new kind of leadership, one ready to move beyond systems that no longer serve us.

This September, I felt the pulse of that shift everywhere. From the United Nations General Assembly in New York to our own Leaders of the Future launch seminar and AI Leadership workshops here in South Florida, one theme echoed across every room and conversation:

Collaborations is the new leadership

I call these moments energy sparks. They are the encounters that remind us we are not navigating this future alone. At UNGA, sitting at roundtables with global leaders, I felt the urgency of collective intelligence, the recognition that no single nation, company, or leader can solve the challenges ahead in isolation.

In Florida, delivering a keynote on AI leadership to local entrepreneurs and community leaders, I saw the same truth on a different scale: transformation happens when we connect and share stories, human to human. Simple yet powerful, with the feeling of connection and experiencing the oneness of being in this together.

I like to call this the power of Connected Intelligence. It is the ability to share our collective wisdom and to build bridges of trust with people we may just be meeting, but feel strongly called to share energy and insight with.

But it also comes with a paradox. We live in an era of hyperconnectivity, endless Zoom calls, thousands of LinkedIn contacts, constant streams of information, and yet, many leaders still feel “busy but lonely.” Surrounded by interaction, but longing for depth. Connected to everyone, but missing genuine connection.

That tension, quantity vs. quality, was visible this month in the stories we heard from leaders across the globe. And it’s why our work at Leaders of the Future feels so urgent. Our mission is not to add more noise to the system, but to create spaces of meaning. To help leaders slow down, anchor themselves, and find the presence to connect in ways that matter.

Looking back, September was a milestone in many ways. Our global launch seminar brought together nearly 300 leaders in its very first edition. Our weekly newsletter on LinkedIn quickly grew into a shared space for reflection and practice. Guest authors joined our digital media hub, bringing their voices and expertise. And at UNGA week, participating in several high-impact forums and meetings reminded me again that even small actions today can create ripple effects of impact we might not yet fully understand. This is a huge responsibility for leaders as we make decisions shaping the coming years.

If August was about the launch of Leaders of the Future, September was all about action. And the action was building meaningful human connections.

As we move into October, the insight from September I want to leave you with collaboration is the new leadership. The bridges we build now will define not only how we navigate the volatility of a world moving faster than we ever anticipated, but also how we shape opportunities together. In times of acceleration, our greatest possibilities come when we step forward collectively to shape what’s new.

Until next time, let’s keep building toward our vision: a world led by collective leadership wisdom.
